A Few Ideas

Are you interested in a few ideas that might come in handy?

We prefer open conversation, but below are just a few things for consideration.

Have you chosen a plan? Well, have you thought about this?

The key to choosing plan is affordability. We need to know what you want, but also your budget range, this will help you focus on plans in your price range. One way to ensure greater satisfaction is discovering how to get more log home for your dollar. For example, a story-and-a-half home costs less per square foot than a ranch style. Taking advantage of the lot and finishing a walk-out basement is very inexpensive square footage. Keeping a home square or rectangular also keeps cost within reason.

The most common changes to plans are changes to square footage; adding or deleting porches and decks; changing window and door locations; rearranging interior walls; and adding garages, workshops, mud rooms and breezeways. Many times, what may seem a small and simple change can end up being a very complex and costly change due to the overall effect the change may have for structural reasons.

Before you begin to study floor plans for your log home, try creating a plan yourself or at least make a list of what you want. Then browse floor plan magazines and web sites. By then you’ll be ready to work with an Arrowhead log home designer to make changes or embark on a brand-new custom design.

Am I limited to any specific floor plans?

No. When it comes to designing your Arrowhead Log Home, you are limited only by your imagination and your budget. We can create a home from your original design, from our standard floor plans, or even from other sources. Your Log Home Consultant can help you translate your ideas into an attractive and functional design that fits your unique needs.

Have you considered HOW you live?

Another point is your lifestyle. Couples with children may want a bedroom for each child, as well as the convenience of a separate master bath, meaning perhaps a two-story home. An older couple, by contrast, might find a ranch-style home more to their liking. Looking at a variety of plans gives buyers with different circumstances the opportunity to determine the style and layout of a home that would best suit their needs. Always remember, just about any plan can be used to produce an Arrowhead Log & Hybrid Home!

Maximize space and avoid knee knockers!

It helps to locate furniture and traffic patterns in a log home early on in the design process because your layout options may be limited. Simplified rooflines, offsets and textures are a key to designing a wonderful small-home design. The use of covered porches, decks and outdoor features helps increase the usable space of a small home.

Would you like a home just like all the others?

Large homes are not large boxes. They tend to be a collection or combination of smaller boxes. Once the box has been defined, it becomes easier to mix components. Custom-designed large homes are the norm rather than the exception.

As for larger homes, they can be boring if all the construction's the same... which is why the hybrid home is a natural!

Nothing says elegance like a mixture of log and stone! Many hybrid home buyers like to mix materials and construction systems in the larger designs. Blending log and timber frame construction and drywall in the interior, for example, and stone on the exterior to break up the wood while retaining the architectural theme creates a stunning and unique home.

Does the building process seem a little complicated? We'll help you get started.

The thing to remember about building your new Arrowhead Log Home is that you won't be alone in the process. Unlike other companies, Arrowhead can be directly responsible for the turn-key construction of you new log home. You can depend on the experience and assistance of your Arrowhead Log & Hybrid Structures consultant. Your Arrowhead consultant will assist you through the initial research stage, through the design and free estimating stages, during construction, and after you move in.

Do Arrowhead log homes come with a warranty?

Every Arrowhead package comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty.

Is the wood I get from Arrowhead Log & Hybrid Structures kiln-dried?

Yes. Only the best for you will do. Kiln-drying protects wood against primary decay, fungal stain and attack by certain kinds of insects. Organisms, which cause decay and stain, generally cannot thrive in timber with moisture content below 20%. Most insect pests live only in green timber. Dried wood is less susceptible to decay than green wood (above 20% moisture content).

Apart from those advantages of kiln-drying, the following are also important:

1. Kiln drying in a monitored and controlled process. With air drying, or natural seasoning, there is no process to control. All that exists is stacked wood left out in the elements. So the drying process cannot be controlled, stabilized, or relied upon.
2. Dried timber is lighter, so the transportation and handling costs are reduced.
3. Dried timber is stronger than green timber in most strength properties.
4. Dry wood also accepts wood preservatives much better, so solid protection is available from the beginning without any additional waiting period.
5. The thermal insulation properties of wood are improved by drying.

Will banks finance my log home package from Arrowhead Log & Hybrid Structures?

Our Log Home Consultants can connect you with financial institutions in your area that are ready and willing to finance your new log home. This applies to the construction financing as well as your permanent mortgage. In addition, we have relationships with lenders on a national scope, which offer entire finance programs catering specifically to the log home industry.

Will my Arrowhead Log Home cost more than a "stick-built"?

As a general rule, an Arrowhead Log & Hybrid Structure will cost a little more than a similar quality "stick-built" home, providing the same specifications and building components are used. However, when you are finished, you will own something decidedly different... a log home that is warm, unique, and full of character.

Will I need a special foundation for my log home?

Your Arrowhead Log & Hybrid Structure can be built on a variety of standard foundations or on a concrete slab.
